The EHESO Benchmarking Tool for Higher Education Institutions builds upon the methodological work performed in the predecessor U-Multirank project and largely maintains the same structure and approach for visualisations. A redesigned tool was launched in December 2025.
The EHESO Benchmarking Tool for Higher Education Institutions enables users to identify relevant peer institutions from which they can derive insights and compare own systems against similar peer institutions on a range of dimensions:

The tool includes comparable data on higher education institutions across Europe and beyond. It offers an intuitive interface (i.e. ‘At a glance’ and Expert views) to find and analyse relevant institutions in a most flexible way, tailored for both new and advanced users.
The easy-access interface (i.e. ‘At a glance’ view) allows for a streamlined, user-friendly access to gain quick insights about higher education institutions in Europe. The ‘At a glance’ view comes with a pre-defined logic for the selection of peer institutions and filters to generate immediate insights without the need for extensive customisation by the user. The expert interface (i.e. Expert view) is available for advanced users with custom filtering and possibility for additional data manipulation to gain deeper and more customised insights. By combining an easy-access interface for quick insights with the revised expert version, the new EHESO Benchmarking Tool for Higher Education Institutions caters to a broader audience of users.
