EHESS Scoreboard: Full dataset now downloadable

A new functionality has been added to the EHESS interactive dashboard, enabling users to download the full dataset used in the scoreboard. This significant step supports deeper independent analysis and evidence-based policymaking by researchers, institutional stakeholders, and policymakers.

With this addition, EHESS becomes not only a tool for interactive exploration but also a data access point, allowing users to conduct their own national or thematic comparisons in line with key European Education Area (EEA) policy priorities.

EHESO Microdata: Enhanced documentation for transparency and usability

EHESO Microdata has been enriched with new documentation tools that improve the user experience and support the reliability and transparency of the data:

  • Methodological Handbook for the European Tertiary Education Register (ETER) Data Collection
This publication outlines the methodology behind the core EHESO-ETER dataset, collected in collaboration with national statistical authorities. It includes definitions of institutional characteristics, financial data, personnel, and validation procedures.
  • Methodological Handbook on External Institutional Data Sources
This handbook details how data from various external sources—such as OpenAlex, PATSTAT, EUPRO, DEQAR, and Erasmus+ data—are integrated into the EHESO institutional dataset. It includes definitions, source validation processes, and methodology for publication and patent data, data on participations to European Framework Programmes, data on quality evaluation, and Erasmus mobility data.
  • User Manual for the EHESO Microdata Interface
This concise guide walks users through accessing and filtering microdata by institution, country, or variable group. It also outlines export functionalities, helping users select indicators relevant to their research or policy questions.

These resources are essential for institutional users, researchers, and policymakers who wish to understand the scope, structure, and standards underlying the EHESO Microdata collections.

EHESO Surveys: Data Collection Complete – New Round Starts in September!

From January to April 2025, we successfully conducted two key EHESO surveys — the Institutional Survey and the Student Survey. We sincerely thank all institutional partners and participants for their valuable contributions.

We are pleased to announce that the data collection phase is now complete. Our team is currently focused on analysing the responses to extract meaningful insights for the European Higher Education Area.

What’s next?

The first results will be made available through the EHESO Benchmarking Tool in the coming months, enabling institutions to explore and compare key indicators interactively.

Interested in Participating?

A new round of data collection will begin in mid-September 2025. Higher education institutions that have not yet joined the EHESO initiative are warmly invited to take part in and benefit from participation in the European Higher Education Sector Observatory and its institutional and student surveys.
