COST - European Cooperation in Science and Technology
The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a pivotal funding organisation that fosters the creation of research networks known as COST Actions. Established in 1971, its primary aim is to promote collaboration among scientists across Europe and beyond, facilitating advancements in research and innovation. COST operates on a bottom-up approach, allowing researchers to propose networks based on their interests through an Open Call. This inclusive model encourages interdisciplinary participation and supports various stakeholders, including the private sector and policymakers, thereby enhancing the scope and impact of scientific endeavours. Over the years, COST has received funding from EU research frameworks such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, complementing national research efforts by financing collaborative activities like workshops, conferences, and training schools.
