7. Health and Well-Being

Last update: 24 April 2026

The Portuguese Government established the policy guidelines in the field of health and well-being through the National Strategy for the Promotion of Physical Activity, Health and Well-being for the period 2016–2025. The strategy aims to combat sedentarism and non-communicable chronic diseases by promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles through a structured and inclusive approach, based on intersectoral and inter-ministerial cooperation. It is aligned with the National Health Plan and with a wide range of priority intervention plans and programmes in the areas of mental health, healthy eating, physical activity, sport, and the reduction of addictive behaviours and dependencies, under the supervision of various national bodies.
