The same as Wales, among the nations of the United Kingdom, Scotland has extended the franchise to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote. This applies to Scottish Parliament and Scottish local elections. The minimum age to vote in UK General Elections remains at 18.

Education Scotland, the national agency for quality and improvement in education, provides resources to develop professional capacity in practitioners, schools and community settings to reflect on how well they build capacity in learners to use their voice, participate and contribute to decision-making processes that are real and meaningful.​
