2. Voluntary Activities

2.6 Quality assurance

Last update: 28 March 2024

According to the "Declaration on the rights and obligations of volunteers" (Διακήρυξη των Δικαιωμάτων και Ευθυνών των Εθελοντών/ριών), voluntary organisations are committed to developing and implementing quality standards that will ensure appropriate preparation and information, personal guidance, support and monitoring throughout the process, evaluation mechanisms and full support through the implementation of the volunteering activities. However, there is not a formal monitoring and evaluation mechanism to assure the quality of the volunteering activities at national level. The practices used by the organisations vary and can include measures like training for volunteers, regular evaluations of volunteer programs, monitoring and reporting of volunteer activities, and feedback mechanisms for volunteers.

With regard to the volunteering activities that take place within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps programme (Ευρωπαϊκό Σώμα Αλληλεγγύης), organisations must be accredited by the respective National Agency and meet certain quality criteria. There is additional assurance of quality and specific monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for the volunteering projects that receive funding under this Programme.

As explained in Section 5.6 - Supporting youth organisations, the Youth Board of Cyprus provides funding through the National Funding Scheme "Youth Initiatives" to youth organisations and youth clubs for implementing projects. The projects are evaluated on the basis of certain quality criteria and upon their completion, a final report that describes the outcomes of the project must be submitted by the organisations.
