Ready to engage your community in higher education with TEFCE Toolbox?

13 January 2025

The TEFCE Toolbox for Community Engagement in Higher Education is an innovative framework designed to foster collaboration between higher education institutions and their communities. By encouraging a thorough examination of community engagement practices, the TEFCE Toolbox serves as a valuable resource for higher education institutions, communities, and policymakers. It helps stakeholders gain a comprehensive understanding of various dimensions of community engagement while allowing higher education institutions to assess their performance across these dimensions. This self-reflection process not only highlights areas of strength but also identifies opportunities for improvement, ultimately enhancing the mutual benefits derived from community engagement initiatives.

The TEFCE Toolbox is grounded in four core principles that guide its application: commitment to authentic and mutually beneficial engagement, empowerment of individuals both within and outside the university, a participative approach that integrates bottom-up and top-down involvement, and collaborative learning instead of competitive performance evaluation. These principles promote a culture of inclusivity and shared learning among all stakeholders involved.
