ProDemos is the national ‘House for Democracy and the Rule of Law’. ProDemos helps explain the systems that govern democracy and the rule of law. We show citizens what they can do to exert political influence- at the municipal, provincial, national and European level. Specifically for young people, ProDemos has a programme for schools. They offer educational excursions to Parliament for secondary education and students in vocational education, but also guest lectures and teaching materials.
The Netherlands’ Ombudsman for Children (Kinderombudsman) monitors whether children’s rights are adhered to on a national level, but also in education, childcare, health care and child welfare. This includes young people up to 18 years of age. The Ombudsman provides advice to the government and Parliament regarding laws and policies that have an effect on children's rights. The Ombudsman for Children also raises awareness of children's rights.
Youth-targeted information campaigns about democratic rights and democratic values
Currently the Netherlands has no major youth-targeted information campaigns about democratic rights.
Promoting the intercultural dialogue among young people
In the Netherlands there are initiatives and projects that promote the intercultural dialogue of young people from different cultural backgrounds, but not at the national level.
Promoting transparent and youth-tailored public communication
There are no aims to promote transparent and youth-tailered public communication known on a national level. No information has been found regarding national or large-scale programmes on providing training for policy makers at various levels to provide suitable and youth-tailored communication.
