Green volunteering

In Greece, green volunteering initiatives are being developed with the active participation of young people, linked to environmental protection, climate action, and sustainable consumption. These initiatives are implemented both by youth organizations and by environmental organizations that offer volunteer participation programs and educational activities.

ELIX, which has implemented a number of voluntary actions in various regions of Greece, with the aim of protecting the environment, preserving cultural heritage, promoting non-formal education and strengthening social cohesion, while at the same time supporting the mission of thousands of volunteers from Greece in voluntary work programs abroad.

Arcturos,  carries out actions for the protection and management of wild life, as well as the natural environment in the area of the organization in Florina, but also throughout Greece. It also coordinates volunteer exchange programs, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Life Long Learning and Youth, as well as the European Volunteering Service EVS. It also participates in awareness raising, information and environmental education activities (actions with students or groups of children in schools & other educational institutions).

Greenpeace, is an independent, non-profit environmental organization. Its campaigns focus on climate, energy and the exploitation of natural resources.

WWF Greece implements actions and campaigns involving young volunteers, particularly on issues related to the climate crisis, nature protection, and changes in consumption patterns aimed at reducing the environmental footprint. Through educational programs and citizen engagement initiatives, young people are given the opportunity to actively participate in environmental actions.

Fridays for Future is part of the international youth climate movement, involving students and university students. In Greece, it organizes awareness activities and public interventions focused on the climate crisis and the need to transition to sustainable production and consumption patterns.

The Let’s Do It Greece initiative carries out nationwide volunteer clean-up and environmental awareness activities, with the participation of schools, student groups, and local communities. The initiative is linked to the international Let’s Do It World movement and promotes the active participation of young people in environmental protection.

Green production and consumption

In Greece, the promotion of green production and responsible consumption falls within the broader framework of national policies on sustainable development and the climate transition. However, there are no standalone, specially designed policies or legislated programs exclusively targeting youth participation in the field of green production and consumption, aside from those mentioned above.
