Green volunteering

Within the context of the National Youth and Sports Policy Document (Ulusal Gençlik ve Spor Politikası Belgesi), the target of spreading the love for nature to the youth and increase the number of activities organised in the nature, and based on this target, the following goals are accepted and implemented:

 • To perform works on raising and improving environmental awareness in the youth by encouraging nature sports.

• To ensure building of environmental education parks that will enable the youth to be in touch with, spend time and love the nature.

• To organise activities in the youth centres, youth camps and projects for youth to enable them to know and spend time in the nature.

• To ensure more youth enjoy the youth nature camps by increasing their numbers.

• To encourage scouting, mountain climbing, cycling, skiing, orienteering etc. branches.

Green Skills Volunteering Camp: In order to raise awareness about nature in youth camps and youth centers, “Green Skills Volunteering Camp” was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports between May 6-8 and May 9-11, 2022. Environmental-themed activities were carried out with 4,000 volunteer young people in 11 youth camps.

Tent Camps: Tent camps are organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to encourage young people to spend more time in nature, develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment, and raise awareness about environmental issues. During these camps, participants receive training on tent set up, outdoor living skills, ecological diversity and balance and engage in various activities such as nature walks and teamwork exercises.

As of 2022, TEMA Foundation (Turkish Foundation for Soil erosion, for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats) (TEMA Vakfı) is one of the most widespread environmental volunteering organizations with 1 million volunteers. Ecological literacy works, Awareness Raising Campaigns for Combating Erosion, works aimed at inspiring children and youth with nature and green volunteering, memorial forest projects, cooperation activities on green volunteering are among the main activity fields of the TEMA Foundation.

The Tema Foundation brings together its volunteers through online training and seminars. It organizes online education, workshops, and seminars on forests, mining activities, and the climate crisis, as well as awareness-raising activities on nature. In addition, it awards prizes to individuals working on volunteerism in 4 categories within the scope of the Hayrettin Karaca Volunteerism Awards

The Tema Foundation represents Turkey in the managements of important institutions such as the European Environmental Bureau, DRYnet, and the Civil Society Panel of UNCCD.

Green production and consumption

In the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the strategy of supporting organic farming and good agricultural practices aiming not to harm the environment, human and animal health and supporting for food and feed safety has been adopted. Furthermore, supporting small-scale fisheries enterprises to ensure their economic sustainability and minimize their adverse effects on the environment is emphasized in the same document. Additionally, the plan aims to meet the needs of producers with environmentally-friendly and efficient technologies.

In the 2023 Performance Program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the goal of ensuring food/feed safety from production to consumption and taking necessary measures for plant and animal health and welfare has been adopted and implementing environmentally-friendly plant health measures in plant production is targeted.

In the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Industry and Technology covering the period 2020-2024, supporting various initiatives has been targeted in order to transform the manufacturing industry into an environmentally and socially conscious industrial.
