Forthcoming policy developments

After a couple of years of hesitation, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports agreed that a new post-2020 National Youth Strategy should be developed during 2024.

An action plan for the field of youth and connections between formal and non-formal education for the period 2022 - 2023 was approved by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in the end off 2022 and should serve as an interim plan until the new national Youth Strategy is created and approved.

So far, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports deals mainly with direct support towards youth NGOs through the subsidy programmes. It also focuses on how to strengthen connections between formal and non-formal education. This scope has been enlarged again after the re-establishment of the full-fledged Youth Department in 2023.

Ongoing debates

The policy and structural changes in the Ministry lead to the ‘disappearing’ of the youth policy from the public debate, however, the new government marked the priorities in further development in the governmental statement to maintain and widen the support to youth work and for connecting formal and non-formal education. Since autumn 2021 also public and expert assemblies on the topic took place in cooperation with the NGOs and political level - especially the senate and the new minister of education, youth and sports.

Within the House of Deputies of the Czech Parliament also the Subcommittee for Leisure Time and Youth continue working in the period after the election 2021. Its main focus is a development of a youth-friendly legislation and practical steps to support youth work and its financing within the NGOs and youth organizations sector.
