3. Employment & Entrepreneurship

Last update: 17 November 2025

Youth employment lies within the general employment policy. The Regions are mainly competent for employment policy. This chapter illustrates the relevant initiatives and actors which support youth employment both in the Brussels Region and the Walloon Region.

The employment Agencies, Forem (Wallonia) and Actiris (Brussels), offer support measures to young people. The development of entrepreneurship competence is a really important policy both in the Walloon Region and the Region of Brussels-Capital.

Wallonia

According to Walloon Institute for Evaluation, Foresight and Statistics (IWEPS), in 2024, the employment rate of young people (aged 15–24) remained very low in Wallonia (20.6%) and slightly decreased compared with 2023.

In its regional policy statement 2024-2029 (déclaration de politique régionale 2024-2029),  the Government of Wallonia will make the promotion, support, and development of entrepreneurship a cornerstone of Wallonia’s recovery. It will develop a supportive approach for prospective entrepreneurs and will promote success stories.
Thus, as part of economic outreach activities, efforts to raise awareness of the entrepreneurial mindset among young people (such as Générations entreprenantes) will be strengthened, expanded, and adapted across all education pathways from an early age, in partnership with the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
