10.7 Raising awareness about youth work

Last update: 28 November 2023

Information providers

From the public institutions' point of view and IPDJ (Portuguese Institute for Youth and Sport) in particular, there is a national network for youth information. There is also strict cooperation with youth organizations in the dissemination of interesting subjects to promote transversal access across the territory to all youngsters.

However, in the annual calendar, there are specific events that must be addressed and are the target for major visibility.

Key iniciatives

Some examples are the celebration of the National Day of Youth Organizations, regularly since almost two decades on the 30th of April, the International Youth Day on the 12th of August and the Youth Volunteer day on the 5th of December.

In the past 6 years, there has been also an important yearly event, usually conjugated with the Youth Voluntary Day on the 5th of December, that is the recognition of good practices and projects from the youth movements and organizations, where relevant projects are presented, prized and discussion of relevant topics occurs.

The new online platforms, like the new youth portal or the public availability of the RNAJ, are also important elements for recognition of youth work, and the close cooperation between all actors and institutions in the youth field is a decisive process that gained more strength with the National Youth Plan.
