Governance
The Ministry for Social Affairs, Demography and Youth is the main governmental institution responsible for youth policy in the Republic of North Macedonia, including the coordination of youth participation in global and international policy processes. Together with the National Agency for European Educational Programmes and Mobility, the Ministry plays a key role in enabling young people’s involvement in international cooperation frameworks, policy dialogues and follow-up processes related to global issues affecting youth.
The Ministry for Social Affairs, Demography and Youth and the National Agency for European Educational Programmes and Mobility are also involved in facilitating and supporting the nomination of youth representatives for participation in international events, initiatives and platforms focusing on youth and global challenges, particularly within European and regional cooperation frameworks.
Cooperation between governmental institutions and civil society organisations exists and is primarily implemented through project-based initiatives and formal partnerships. In this context, cooperation between public institutions and youth representative bodies, such as the National Youth Council of Macedonia, remains an important mechanism for strengthening youth representation and participation in decision-making processes. Such cooperation focuses on promoting youth policies, supporting youth participation structures and enhancing the role of young people in national, regional and international policy discussions.
Joint activities between institutions and civil society organisations typically include consultative processes, capacity-building activities, conferences, thematic workshops and joint initiatives aimed at improving youth participation and representation, including in international and global policy processes.
Cross-sectorial cooperation
There is no publicly available information on a formally established, permanent mechanism for cross-sectorial cooperation between ministries, agencies and departments specifically addressing youth contributions to global policy processes. Cross-sectorial cooperation in this field is mainly realised on an ad hoc basis, through inter-institutional coordination within specific projects, strategies or international initiatives involving youth participation.
