6. Education and Training

Last update: 11 November 2025

The education system of the Republic of North Macedonia is structured across several levels: preschool education, compulsory elementary education covering the age group from 6 to 14 years, secondary education for students aged 15 to 17/18, and higher education at universities and other tertiary institutions. Each level is designed to ensure continuity in learning and development, preparing young people with the knowledge and skills necessary for further education, active citizenship, and participation in the labor market.

The Ministry of Education and Science is the central government authority responsible for the overall management, development, and supervision of education and training. Its mandate includes formulating and implementing education policies, ensuring quality standards, and aligning the education system with national development priorities as well as European and international frameworks.
