10. Youth Work

The Law on the Basics of Youth Policy of the Republic of Lithuania stipulates that work with youth is carried out by youth organizations and organizations working with youth, following the principles of work with youth. The following forms of youth work are distinguished:

1) open work with youth;

2) work with youth on the street;

3) mobile work with youth;

4) development of practical skills of young people;

5) informing and counseling young people;

6) other forms.

When working with youth, non-formal youth education must be carried out and smart methods of working with youth must be applied.

 

Youth Work is carried out in accordance with the following principles:

1) open and informal communication - the relationship between the person working with the young person and the young person is based on mutual trust, equality and learning from each other;

2) voluntary participation - work with youth is based on a young person's voluntary decision and his involvement (involvement) in work without experiencing any form of discrimination; a young person voluntarily participates in the initiation of activities, makes decisions and takes responsibility for their implementation;

3) joint activities - learning to solve problems in a group, to make decisions in cooperation with other persons, sharing work and/or responsibility with them;

4) individuality - work with youth is organized taking into account the needs of each young person with whom we work;

5) learning from experience - work with youth is based on the personal experience of a young person and his self-evaluation;

6) referral - a young person, taking into account his individual needs, is sent to state and/or municipal institutions and/or institutions, other entities that can provide him with the necessary help and/or information;

7) safe environment - conditions must be ensured for a young person to learn, act, and implement ideas safely without experiencing physical and psychological violence.
