10. Youth Work

Last update: 25 February 2026

Youth Work is an emerging field of action in the youth sector in Greece and across Europe. Although there is no institutionally established unified national definition, the term is used to describe organized activities and interventions addressed to young people outside the framework of formal education. The General Secretariat of Vocational Education, Training, Lifelong Learning and Youth, as the competent governmental authority for youth affairs in the country, implements policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of services provided to young people and raising awareness about the role of youth work.

Youth Work falls within the sphere of non-formal and informal learning and is delivered through activities that respond to the needs of youth groups and organizations. It is guided by shared European values and methodological approaches, such as voluntary participation, empowerment of young people’s voices, intercultural understanding, and social inclusion. It serves as a tool for personal development, social cohesion, and active citizenship, and is implemented as both a social and educational practice
