Programmes and schemes for cross-border mobility

The EURES programme

The European Network EURES (EURopean Employment Services) was launched in 1993 to coordinate transnational worker mobility policy in accordance with the European Union's basic principle of workers’ free movement (Article 3 of the Treaty on European Union and Article 45 of the Treaty on the Operation of the European Union).

The Network promotes cooperation between the European Commission, the public employment services of the Member States of the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes the EU countries, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and other EURES Members and Partners. Switzerland also plays an important role in this cooperation.

The Greek EURES network

In Greece, there are 28 EURES stations and 28 EURES Consultants operating in the following cities: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa, Lamia, Chania, Kalamata, Kavala, Syros, Rhodes, Katerini, Corinth, Amyntaio, Kozani, Kilkis, Komotini and Drama. EURES Advisers are experienced in the labor market and serve those looking for a job in Europe.

The Greek EURES Network can help jobseekers by providing services such as:

• Linking job vacancies and CVs on the EURES portal,

• Information, guidance and other support services,

• Job search counseling,

• Access to information on living and working conditions in EU Member States, such as taxation, pensions, health insurance and social security,

• Mediating and facilitating communication with network members or potential employers,

• Support of specific groups within the framework of the  Targeted Mobility Schemes  (EURES Τargeted Mobility Schemes).

In addition, EURES Greece participates in or organizes seminars, information events, fora and events aimed at matching job supply and demand (career days, interview days, etc.).

If you are looking for a job in another EU country, EEA country or Switzerland and want to use one or more of the EURES network services, we recommend that you contact your local EURES Consultant.

Erasmus Program for Young Entrepreneurs

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange program that gives young or aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other Participant Countries. Young entrepreneurs come together and exchange knowledge and business ideas with an experienced entrepreneur, with whom they stay and work for a period of 1 to 6 months. In Greece there are 7 local contact points for each interested party.

Legal framework

There are no top-level policy measures setting a clear legal framework applying to incoming and outgoing young workers, trainees/apprentices and young professionals/entrepreneurs. However, information about each country’s regulations, social security, etc. can be found on the website of the EURES Network under the section ‘Living and Working’
