4. Social Inclusion

Last update: 26 February 2025

The new national strategy presents a new model of "active policies" of social protection, which are focused on preventing and addressing the effects of unemployment, poverty, and exclusion in Greek society. These effects are anticipated to be exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic's effects on the economy, along with unfavorable demographic trends and, most importantly, the weakening of the protective role of informal care networks and families. By requiring the creation of policies that support and foster the socialization of the most vulnerable people, improving opportunities for the development of work skills, and fostering social contacts and interpersonal relationships, the new National Strategy encourages equal participation in social and economic life.
