9. Youth and the World

Last update: 25 March 2024

Development education is one of the strategic areas for Romania’s development cooperation policy. Romania works to educate its own citizens, experts and practitioners, for ensuring a good understanding of the values and needs of our partner countries and delivering efficient development cooperation programmes. Development education targets groups and individuals, youths and adults, juniors and experts in the field, by using methods and tools specific to each target group, mainly through granting funds to projects implemented by NGOs. In 2023 a National Strategy for Environment and Climate Education was adopted and since 2023 a Green Week is implemented in schools and high schools.

Most of the activities relevant to the theme are the projects and initiatives that RoAid implements on partnership basis with the non-public actors.

Excepting development education, however, participation of young people to global issues and initiatives is generally weak in Romania and no information is available on non-formal learning on raising awareness about global issues, youth targeted information campaigns on global issues, green volunteering, production and consumption.
